- Kapitel 1 -

(Deuteronomy 11:8–17)

Now it came about after the death of Moses the servant of Yahweh, that Yahweh spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ chief assistant, saying,

“Moses, my servant, is dead. Now therefore, arise, cross over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them-to the people of Israel.

I have given you every place where the sole of your foot will walk. I have given it to you, just as I promised to Moses.

From the wilderness and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea, where the sun goes down, will be your land.

No one will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not abandon you or leave you.

Be strong and courageous. You will cause this people to inherit the land that I promised their ancestors I would give to them.

Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may be successful wherever you go.

You will always speak about this book of the law. You will meditate on it day and night so that you can obey all that is written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged. Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua Takes Charge

Then Joshua commanded the leaders of the people,

“Go through the camp and command the people, ‘Prepare provisions for yourselves. In three days you will cross over this Jordan and go in and possess the land that Yahweh your God is giving you to possess.’”

To the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh, Joshua said,

“Call to mind the word that Moses the servant of Yahweh, commanded you when he said, ‘Yahweh your God is giving you rest, and he is giving you this land.’

Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock will stay in the land that Moses gave you beyond the Jordan. But your fighting men will go over with your brothers and help them,

until Yahweh has given your brothers rest just as he has given it to you. Then they also will take possession of the land Yahweh your God gives them. Then you will return to your own land and possess it, the land that Moses the servant of Yahweh gave you beyond the Jordan, where the sun rises.”

Then they answered Joshua, saying, “All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.

We will obey you just as we obeyed Moses. Only may Yahweh your God be with you, as he was with Moses.

Whoever rebels against your commands and disobeys your words will be put to death. Only be strong and courageous.”

Gottes Auftrag an Josua

(5. Mose 11,8-17)

Und es begab sich nach dem Tode Moses, des Dieners des Herrn, dass der Herr zu Josue, dem Sohne Nuns, dem Diener Moses, redete, und zu ihm sprach:

Moses, mein Diener, ist gestorben; mache dich auf und ziehe über den Jordan dort, du und das ganze Volk mit dir, in das Land, welches ich den Söhnen Israels geben werde.

Jeden Ort, den euer Fuß betritt, werde ich euch geben, wie ich zu Moses gesprochen habe.

Von der Wüste und dem Libanon bis an den großen Strom Euphrat, das ganze Land der Hethiter bis an das große Meer gegen Sonnenuntergang soll euer Gebiet sein.

Niemand wird euch stand halten können alle Tage deines Lebens hindurch; wie ich mit Moses gewesen bin, so werde ich mit dir sein; ich werde dich nicht preisgeben und dich nicht verlassen.

Sei stark und mutig! Denn du sollst das Land, das ich ihren Vätern geschworen habe, ihnen zu geben, durch das Los unter dies Volk verteilen.

Sei also stark und sehr mutig, dass du das ganze Gesetz, welches dir Moses, mein Diener, gegeben hat, haltest und tuest; weiche davon weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken, damit du weise seiest in allem, was du tust.

Das Buch des Gesetzes komme nicht von deinem Munde, sondern sinne darüber Tag und Nacht, damit du alles haltest und tuest, was in demselben geschrieben ist; dann wirst du deinen Weg recht gehen und weise handeln.

Siehe, ich gebiete dir, sei stark und mutig! Fürchte dich nicht und zage nicht; denn der Herr, dein Gott, ist mit dir bei allem, was du unternehmen wirst.

Der Befehl, den Jordan zu überqueren

Da gebot Josue den Fürsten des Volkes und sprach: Gehet durch das Lager hindurch, und gebietet dem Volke und sprechet:

Bereitet euch Zehrung vor; denn nach drei Tagen sollt ihr den Jordan überschreiten und einziehen, das Land in Besitz zu nehmen, welches der Herr, euer Gott, euch geben will.

Und zu den Rubeniten und Gaditen und dem halben Stamme Manasse sprach er:

Gedenket des Befehles, welchen euch Moses, der Diener des Herrn, gegeben hat, da er sprach: Der Herr, euer Gott, hat euch Ruhe verliehen und das ganze Land.

Eure Frauen und Kinder, und euer Vieh sollen in dem Lande bleiben, welches euch Moses jenseits des Jordans gegeben hat; ihr aber, alle streitbaren Männer, ziehet bewaffnet vor euren Brüdern her und kämpfet für sie,

bis der Herr euern Brüdern Ruhe gibt, wie er sie euch gewährt hat, und auch sie das Land in Besitz nehmen, das der Herr, euer Gott, ihnen geben will; alsdann möget ihr in das Land, das euch als Besitz zugehört, zurückkehren und in dem Lande wohnen, das euch Moses, der Diener des Herrn, jenseits des Jordans gegen Sonnenaufgang gegeben hat.

Da antworteten sie Josue und sprachen: Alles, was du uns geboten hast, wollen wir tun; und wohin du uns immer sendest, wollen wir gehen.

Wie wir Moses in allem gehorsam gewesen sind, so wollen wir auch an dir gehorsam sein; möge nur der Herr, dein Gott, mit dir sein, wie er mit Moses war.

Wer deinem Munde widerspricht und nicht allen befehlen, die du ihm gibst, gehorsam ist, der soll sterben; sei du nur mutig und handle männlich!
