- Kapitel 11 -

Then Yahweh said to Moses, “I will bring one more disaster on the king of Egypt and on all his people. After that, he will let you leave. In fact, he will chase you out of Egypt.

So now, speak to all the Israelite people. Tell them to ask all their Egyptian neighbors, both men and women, to give them their silver and gold jewelry.”

Yahweh made the Egyptians highly respect the Israelite people. In fact, the king’s officials and all the rest of the people thought that Moses was a very great man.

Then Moses went to the king and said, “This is what Yahweh says: ’About midnight tonight I will go through Egypt,

and I will cause all the firstborn sons to die. From the king’s oldest son to the oldest son of the slave woman who grinds grain, and the oldest son of everyone else. I will also kill the oldest males of your livestock.

When that happens, people all over Egypt will lament loudly. They will lament more loudly than they ever have lamented before and more than they ever will again.

But among the Israelite people it will be so quiet that not even a dog will bark! Then you will know for sure that I, Yahweh, am treating the Egyptians differently from the Israelites.’

Then all these officials of yours will come and bow down before me and will say, ‘Please get out of Egypt, you and all the Israelite people!’ After that, we will leave Egypt!” When Moses had said that, he left the king very angrily.

Then Yahweh said to Moses, “The king will not listen to what you say. So I will perform more miracles in the land of Egypt.”

Aaron and Moses did all these miracles in front of the king, but Yahweh made the king stubborn. The king did not let the Israelite people leave his land.

Der Tod der Erstgeborenen wird verkündet

Und der Herr sprach zu Moses: Noch mit einer Plage will ich Pharao und Ägypten schlagen, alsdann wird er euch ziehen lassen, ja euch drängen, wegzuziehen.

Sage daher dem ganzen Volke, dass die Männer von ihren Freunden, und die Weiber von ihren Nachbarinnen silberne und goldene Gefäße fordern.

Der Herr aber wird sein Volk Gnade bei den Ägyptern finden lassen. Auch war Moses ein sehr angesehener Mann im Lande Ägypten, bei den Dienern Pharaos und bei dem ganzen Volke.

Da sprach er: So spricht der Herr: Um Mitternacht werde ich durch Ägypten gehen;

und alle Erstgeborenen im Lande der Ägypter sollen sterben, vom Erstgeborenen Pharaos an, der auf seinem Throne sitzt, bis zum Erstgeborenen der Magd, welche an der Mühle ist, sowie alle Erstgeburt des Viehes.

Und es wird ein großes Jammergeschrei im ganzen Lande Ägypten entstehen, wie kein zweites zuvor gewesen ist, noch fernerhin sein wird.

Bei allen Söhnen Israels hingegen wird kein Hund einen Laut geben, weder Mensch noch Vieh; damit ihr erkennet, wie wunderbar der Herr zwischen den Ägyptern und Israel scheidet.

Dann werden alle diese deine Diener zu mir kommen, und vor mir niederfallen, und sagen: Ziehe hinweg mit allem Volke, das dir untergeben ist. Darnach werden wir ausziehen.

Und er verließ Pharao in großem Zorne. Der Herr aber sprach zu Moses: Pharao wird nicht auf euch hören, damit viele Wunderzeichen im Lande Ägypten geschehen.

Moses aber und Aaron taten vor Pharao alle diese Wunder, welche hier geschrieben sind. Aber der Herr verhärtete Pharaos Herz, und er ließ die Söhne Israels nicht aus seinem Land wegziehen.
