- Kapitel 29 -

Now these are the wordes of the booke that Ieremiah the Prophet sent from Ierusalem vnto the residue of the Elders which were caryed away captiues, and to the Priestes, and to the Prophets, and to all the people whome Nebuchad-nezzar had caried away captiue from Ierusalem to Babel:

(After that Ieconiah the King, and the Queene, and the eunuches, the princes of Iudah, and of Ierusalem, and the workemen, and cunning men were departed from Ierusalem)

By the hand of Elasah the sonne of Shaphan and Gemariah the sonne of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah King of Iudah sent vnto Babel to Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel) saying,

Thus hath the Lord of hostes the God of Israel spoken vnto all that are caryed away captiues, whome I haue caused to be caryed away captiues from Ierusalem vnto Babel:

Buylde you houses to dwell in, and plant you gardens, and eate the fruites of them.

Take you wiues, and beget sonnes and daughters, and take wiues for your sonnes, and giue your daughters to husbands, that they may beare sonnes and daughters, that ye may bee increased there, and not diminished.

And seeke the prosperitie of the citie, whither I haue caused you to be caried away captiues, and pray vnto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall you haue peace.

For thus saith the Lord of hostes the God of Israel, Let not your prophets, and your southsayers that bee among you, deceiue you, neither giue eare to your dreames, which you dreame.

For they prophecie you a lie in my Name: I haue not sent them, saith the Lord.

But thus saith the Lord, That after seuentie yeeres be accomplished at Babel, I will visite you, and performe my good promise toward you, and cause you to returne to this place.

For I knowe the thoughtes, that I haue thought towards you, saith the Lord, euen the thoughtes of peace, and not of trouble, to giue you an ende, and your hope.

Then shall you crie vnto mee, and ye shall go and pray vnto me, and I will heare you,

And ye shall seeke mee and finde mee, because ye shall seeke mee with all your heart.

And I wil be found of you, saith the Lord, and I will turne away your captiuitie, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places, whither I haue cast you, saith the Lord, and will bring you againe vnto the place, whence I caused you to be caryed away captiue.

Because ye haue sayd, The Lord hath raised vs vp Prophets in Babel,

Therefore thus saith the Lord of the King, that sitteth vpon the throne of Dauid, and of all the people, that dwell in this citie, your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captiuitie:

Euen thus sayth the Lord of hostes, Beholde, I will sende vpon them the sworde, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile figges, that cannot bee eaten, they are so naughtie.

And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence: and I will make them a terror to all kingdomes of the earth, and a curse, and astonishment and an hissing, and a reproche among all the nations whither I haue cast them,

Because they haue not hearde my words, saith the Lord, which I sent vnto them by my seruantes the Prophetes, rising vp earely, and sending them, but yee woulde not heare, saith the Lord.

Heare ye therefore the word of the Lord all ye of the captiuitie, whome I haue sent from Ierusalem to Babel.

Thus saith the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, of Ahab the sonne of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the sonne of Maaseiah, which prophecie lyes vnto you in my Name, Beholde, I will deliuer them into the hande of Nebuchad-nezzar King of Babel, and he shall slay them before your eyes.

And al they of the captiuitie of Iudah, that are in Babel, shall take vp this curse against them, and say, The Lord make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whome the King of Babel burnt in the fire,

Because they haue committed vilenie in Israel, and haue committed adulterie with their neighbours wiues, and haue spoken lying words in my Name, which I haue not commanded them, euen I knowe it, and testifie it, saith the Lord.

The Message to Shemaiah

Thou shalt also speake to Shemaiah the Nehelamite, saying,

Thus speaketh the Lord of hostes, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy Name vnto all the people, that are at Ierusalem, and to Zephaniah the sonne of Maaseiah the Priest, and to all the Priests, saying,

The Lord hath made thee Priest for Iehoiada the Priest, that yee should bee officers in the House of the Lord, for euery man that raueth and maketh himselfe a Prophet, to put him in prison and in the stockes.

Nowe therefore why hast not thou reproued Ieremiah of Anathoth, which prophecieth vnto you?

For, for this cause hee sent vnto vs in Babel, saying, This captiuitie is long: buyld houses to dwell in, and plant gardens, and eate the fruites of them.

And Zephaniah the Priest red this letter in the eares of Ieremiah the Prophet.

Then came the worde of the Lord vnto Ieremiah, saying,

Send to all them of the captiuitie, saying, Thus saith the Lord of Shemaiah the Nehelamite, Because that Shemaiah hath prophecied vnto you, and I sent him not, and hee caused you to trust in a lye,

Therefore thus saieth the Lord, Behold, I wil visite Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seede: hee shall not haue a man to dwell among this people, neither shall he beholde the good, that I will doe for my people, sayth the Lord, because he hath spoken rebelliously against the Lord.

Jeremias Brief an die Gefangenen

Dies sind die Worte des Schreibens, welches der Prophet Jeremias von Jerusalem sandte an die unter den Weggeführten übriggebliebenen Ältesten, an die Priester und an die Propheten und an das gesamte Volk, welches Nabuchodonosor von Jerusalem nach Babylon weggeführt hatte,

nachdem der König Jechonias, die Königin, die Kämmerer und die Fürsten von Juda und Jerusalem und die Werkleute und die Schlosser von Jerusalem weggezogen waren,

durch Elasa, den Sohn Saphans, und Gamarias, den Sohn Helkias, welche Sedekias, der König von Juda, zu Nabuchodonosor, dem Könige von Babylon, nach Babylon sandte, des Inhalts:

So spricht der Herr der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels, zu allen Gefangenen, die ich von Jerusalem nach Babylon weggeführt habe:

Bauet Häuser und wohnet darin und pflanzet Gärten und genießet den Ertrag derselben!

Nehmet Frauen und zeuget Söhne und Töchter; gebet euern Söhnen Frauen und gebet eure Töchter Männern, dass sie Söhne und Töchter gebären; und mehret euch daselbst und bleibet nicht gering an Zahl!

Und suchet den Frieden der Stadt, in die ich euch habe wegführen lassen, und betet für sie zu dem Herrn, denn ihr Friede wird euer Friede sein!

Denn so spricht der Herr der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Lasset euch nicht täuschen von euern Propheten, die unter euch sind, und von euern Wahrsagern und merket nicht auf eure Träume, welche ihr träumet;

denn trügerisch weissagen sie euch in meinem Namen und ich habe sie nicht gesandt, spricht der Herr.

Denn so spricht der Herr: Wenn die siebzig Jahre in Babylon beginnen voll zu werden, so werde ich euch heimsuchen und werde das Gute, das ich über euch gesprochen habe, erfüllen und euch an diesen Ort zurückführen.

Denn ich kenne die Gedanken, welche ich über euch hege, spricht der Herr, Gedanken des Friedens und nicht des Unglücks, um euch eine Zukunft und Hoffnung zu gewähren.

Dann werdet ihr mich anrufen und hingehen und werdet zu mir beten und ich werde euch erhören.

Ihr werdet mich suchen und finden, wenn ihr mich von ganzem Herzen suchen werdet.

Und ich werde mich von euch finden lassen, spricht der Herr, und werde eure Gefangenen zurückführen und euch aus allen Völkern und von allen Orten sammeln, wohin ich euch verstoßen, spricht der Herr, und will euch zurückholen von dem Orte, an den ich euch habe wegführen lassen.

Ihr sprecht zwar: Der Herr hat uns in Babylon Propheten erweckt,

doch so spricht der Herr von dem Könige, der auf dem Throne Davids sitzt, und von dem ganzen Volke, welches diese Stadt bewohnt, von euern Brüdern, die nicht mit euch in die Gefangenschaft weggezogen sind.

So spricht der Herr der Heerscharen: Siehe, ich will wider sie Schwert, Hunger und Pest senden; ich will sie schlechten Feigen gleichmachen, die man nicht essen kann, weil sie schlecht sind,

und ich will sie mit Schwert, mit Hunger und mit Pest verfolgen und will sie allen Reichen der Erde zur Misshandlung hingeben und will sie zum Gegenstande des Fluches, des Entsetzens, des Spottes und der Schmähung bei allen Völkern machen, unter die ich sie verstoße;

dafür, dass sie nicht auf meine Worte gehört haben, spricht der Herr, die ich durch meine Diener, die Propheten, an sie ergehen ließ, sie vom frühen Morgen an sendend, und ihr habt nicht gehört, spricht der Herr.

So höret denn das Wort des Herrn, ihr Weggeführten alle, die ich von Jerusalem nach Babylon fortgesendet habe!

So spricht der Herr der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels, zu Achab, dem Sohne Kolias, und zu Sedekias, dem Sohne Maasias, die euch in meinem Namen Lügen weissagen: Sehet, ich werde sie in die Hände Nabuchodonosors, des Königs von Babylon, überliefern und er wird sie vor euern Augen töten.

Und alle Weggeführten Judas, die in Babylon sind, sollen ihnen als Bild des Fluches dienen, so dass sie sagen: Der Herr mache dich Sedekias und Achab gleich, die der König von Babylon am Feuer rösten ließ,

deshalb weil sie Ruchlosigkeit in Israel begangen und Ehebruch mit den Frauen ihrer Nächsten getrieben und trügerisch in meinem Namen ein Wort geredet, das ich ihnen nicht aufgetragen hatte; ich bin Richter und Zeuge, spricht der Herr.

Und zu Semejas, dem Nehelamiter, sprich also:

So spricht der Herr der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Weil du in deinem eigenen Namen Zuschriften an das ganze Volk zu Jerusalem und an Sophonias, den Sohn Maasias, den Priester, und an alle Priester gesandt hast, des Inhalts:

Der Herr hat dich zum Priester an Stelle des Priesters Jojadas eingesetzt, dass du der Vorsteher seiest im Hause des Herrn über jeden, der wahnbefangen ist und weissagt, ihn in Block und Kerker zu legen.

Nun denn, warum hast du Jeremias von Anathoth, der euch weissagt, nicht gestraft?

Denn er hat überdies eine Botschaft an uns nach Babylon gesendet, des Inhalts: Es währt noch lange. Bauet Häuser und wohnet darin, pflanzet Gärten und genießet der Ertrag derselben!

Und der Priester Sophonias las diese Zuschrift vor den Ohren des Propheten Jeremias.

Da erging das Wort des Herrn an Jeremias, also:

Sende zu allen Weggeführten und lass sagen: So spricht der Herr zu Semejas, dem Nehelamiter: Weil euch Semejas geweissagt hat, ohne dass ich ihn gesandt und er euch verleitet hat, auf Lügen zu vertrauen,

darum sagt der Herr also: Sehet, ich will es an Semejas, dem Nehelamiter, und seinen Nachkommen ahnden; nicht soll ein Nachkomme von ihm unter diesem Volke wohnen und nicht soll er das Gute schauen, das ich meinem Volke verleihen werde, spricht der Herr; denn er hat Abfall wider den Herrn geredet.
