- Kapitel 12 -

(Numbers 9:1–14)

Then the Lord spake to Moses and to Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,

This moneth shalbe vnto you the beginning of moneths: it shalbe to you the first moneth of the yere.

Speake ye vnto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth of this moneth let euery man take vnto him a lambe, according to the house of the fathers, a lambe for an house.

And if the housholde be too litle for the lambe, he shall take his neighbour, which is next vnto his house, according to the nomber of the persons: euery one of you, according to his eating shall make your count for the lambes,

Your lambe shalbe without blemish, a male of a yeere olde: ye shall take it of the lambes, or of the kiddes.

And yee shall keepe it vntill the fourteenth day of this moneth: then al the multitude of the Congregation of Israel shall kill it at euen.

After, they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two postes, and on the vpper doore post of the houses where they shall eate it.

And they shall eate the flesh the same night, roste with fire, and vnleauened bread: with sowre herbes they shall eate it.

Eate not thereof rawe, boyled nor sodden in water, but rost with fire, both his head, his feete, and his purtenance.

And ye shall reserue nothing of it vnto the morning: but that, which remaineth of it vnto the morowe, shall ye burne with fire.

And thus shall yee eate it, Your loynes girded, your shoes on your feete, and your staues in your handes, and yee shall eate it in haste: for it is the Lords Passeouer.

For I will passe through the lande of Egypt the same night, and will smite all the first borne in the land of Egypt, both man and beast, and I will execute iudgement vpon all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord.

And the blood shalbe a token for you vpon the houses where ye are: so when I see the blood, I will passe ouer you, and the plague shall not be vpon you to destruction, when I smite the lande of Egypt.

The Feast of Unleavened Bread

(Leviticus 23:4–8; Numbers 28:16–25; Deuteronomy 16:1–8)

And this day shalbe vnto you a remembrance: and ye shall keepe it an holie feast vnto the Lord, throughout your generations: yee shall keepe it holie by an ordinance for euer.

Seuen daies shall ye eat vnleauened bread, and in any case ye shall put away leauen the first day out of your houses: for whosoeuer eateth leauened bread from the first daie vntill the seuenth day, that person shalbe cut off from Israel.

And in the first day shalbe an holie assemblie: also in the seuenth day shalbe an holy assemblie vnto you: no worke shalbe done in them, saue about that which euery man must eate: that onely may ye do.

Ye shall keepe also the feast of vnleauened bread: for that same daye I will bring your armies out of the lande of Egypt: therefore ye shall obserue this day, throughout your posteritie, by an ordinance for euer.

In the first moneth and the fourteenth day of the moneth at euen, yee shall eate vnleauened bread vnto the one and twentieth day of the moneth at euen.

Seuen daies shall no leauen be founde in your houses: for whosoeuer eateth leauened bread, that person shalbe cut off from the Congregation of Israel: whether he bee a stranger, or borne in the land.

Ye shall eate no leauened bread: but in all your habitations shall ye eate vnleauened bread.

Then Moses called all the Elders of Israel, and saide vnto them, Choose out and take you for euerie of your housholdes a lambe, and kill the Passeouer.

And take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basen, and strike the lintell, and the doore cheekes with the blood that is in the basen, and let none of you goe out at the doore of his house, vntill the morning.

For the Lord will passe by to smite the Egyptians: and when he seeth the blood vpon the lintel and on the two doore cheekes, the Lord wil passe ouer the doore, and wil not suffer the destroyer to come into your houses to plague you.

Therefore shall ye obserue this thing as an ordinance both for thee and thy sonnes for euer.

And when ye shall come into the land, which the Lord will giue you as hee hath promised, then ye shall keepe this seruice.

And when your children aske you, What seruice is this ye keepe?

Then ye shall saye, It is the sacrifice of the Lordes Passeouer, which passed ouer the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and preserued our houses. Then the people bowed them selues, and worshipped.

So the children of Israel went, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron: so did they.

The Tenth Plague: Death of the Firstborn

Nowe at midnight, the Lord smote all the first borne in the lande of Egypt, from the first borne of Pharaoh that sate on his throne, vnto the first borne of the captiue that was in prison, and all the first borne of beastes.

And Pharaoh rose vp in the night, he, and all his seruants and all the Egyptians: and there was a great crye in Egypt: for there was no house where there was not one dead.

The Exodus Begins

And hee called to Moses and to Aaron by night, and saide, Rise vp, get you out from among my people, both yee, and the children of Israel, and goe serue the Lord as ye haue sayde.

Take also your sheepe and your cattell as yee haue sayde, and depart, and blesse me also.

And the Egyptians did force the people, because they would send them out of the land in haste: for they said, We die all.

Therfore the people tooke their dough before it was leauened, euen their dough bound in clothes vpon their shoulders.

And the children of Israel did according to the saying of Moses, and they asked of ye Egyptians iewels of siluer and iewels of gold, and raiment.

And the Lord gaue the people fauour in the sight of the Egyptians: and they graunted their request: so they spoyled the Egyptians.

Then the children of Israel tooke their iourney from Rameses to Succoth about sixe hundreth thousand men of foote, beside children.

And a great multitude of sundrie sortes of people went out with them, and sheepe, and beeues, and cattel in great abundance.

And they baked the dough which they brought out of Egypt, and made vnleauened cakes: for it was not leauened, because they were thrust out of Egypt, neither coulde they tarie, nor yet prepare themselues vitailes.

So the dwelling of the children of Israel, while they dwelled in Egypt, was foure hundreth and thirtie yeres.

And when the foure hundreth and thirtie yeeres were expired, euen the selfe same day departed all the hostes of the Lord out of the land of Egypt.

It is a night to be kept holie to the Lord, because he brought them out of the lande of Egypt: this is that night of the Lord, which all the children of Israel must keepe throughout their generations.

Instructions for the Passover

Also the Lord said vnto Moses and Aaron, This is the Lawe of the Passeouer: no stranger shall eate thereof.

But euerie seruant that is bought for money, when thou hast circumcised him, then shall he eat thereof.

A stranger or an hyred seruant shall not eat thereof.

In one house shall it bee eaten: thou shalt carie none of ye flesh out of the house, neither shall ye breake a bone thereof.

All the Congregation of Israel shall obserue it.

But if a stranger dwell with thee, and will obserue the Passeouer of the Lord, let him circumcise all the males, that belong vnto him, and then let him come and obserue it, and he shall be as one that is borne in the land: for none vncircumcised person shall eate thereof.

One lawe shalbe to him that is borne in the land, and to the stranger that dwelleth among you.

Then all the children of Israel did as the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron: so did they.

And the selfe same day did the Lord bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies.

Das Passahfest wird eingeführt

(4. Mose 9,1-14)

Weiter sprach der Herr zu Moses und Aaron im Lande Ägypten:

Dieser Monat soll für euch der Beginn der Monate sein; er soll der erste unter den Monaten des Jahres sein.

Redet zu der ganzen Gemeinde der Söhne Israels und saget ihnen: Am zehnten Tage dieses Monats nehme ein jeder ein Lamm für seine Familie und sein Haus.

Ist aber die Zahl zu klein, als dass sie hinreichen könnte, das Lamm aufzuzehren, so nehme er seinen Nachbar, der seinem Hause zunächst wohnt, hinzu, nach der Zahl der Seelen, welche ausreichen können, ein Lamm zu verzehren.

Das Lamm aber soll fehlerfrei, männlich, einjährig sein, und nach dieser Vorschrift dürft ihr auch einen Ziegenbock nehmen.

Dasselbe sollt ihr bis zum vierzehnten Tage dieses Monats aufbewahren; dann soll es die gesamte Gemeinde der Söhne Israels gegen Abend schlachten.

Und sie sollen etwas von seinem Blute nehmen und an die beiden Türpfosten und an die Oberschwelle der Häuser streichen, in denen sie es verzehren werden.

Und sie sollen in dieser Nacht das Fleisch am Feuer geröstet essen, dazu ungesäuertes Brot mit wildem Lattich.

Ihr sollt davon nichts roh oder im Wasser gekocht essen, sondern nur am Feuer gebraten; auch den Kopf samt den Füßen und den inneren Teil sollt ihr essen.

Auch soll nichts davon übrigbleiben bis zum Morgen; wenn aber etwas übrigbleibt, sollt ihr es im Feuer verbrennen.

So aber sollt ihr es verzehren: Eure Lenden umgürtet, Schuhe an den Füßen, und Stäbe in der Hand, sollt ihr es in Eile essen; denn es ist das Phase (das ist der Vorübergang) des Herrn.

Und ich werde in jener Nacht durch das Land Ägypten hindurchziehen und alle Erstgeburt im Lande Ägypten, sowohl unter den Menschen wie unter dem Vieh töten, und will an allen Göttern Ägyptens Gericht üben, ich, der Herr.

Das Blut aber wird zum Zeichen für euch an den Häusern sein, in denen ihr seid; wenn ich das Blut sehe, werde ich vor euch vorübergehen, und die verderbenbringende Plage soll nicht über euch kommen, wenn ich das Land Ägypten schlage.

(3. Mose 23,4-8; 4. Mose 28,16-25; 5. Mose 16,1-8)

Dieser Tag aber soll euch ein Gedächtnistag sein; und ihr sollt ihn als Fest des Herrn feiern von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht mit ewigem Gottesdienste.

Sieben Tage sollt ihr ungesäuertes Brot essen; bereits am ersten Tag soll kein Sauerteig mehr in euren Häusern sein; wer etwas Gesäuertes ißt, diese Seele soll ausgetilgt werden aus Israel.

Der erste Tag soll heilig und festlich sein, und der siebente Tag soll mit gleicher Festlichkeit gefeiert werden; keine Arbeit sollt ihr an diesen Tagen tun, außer die, welche zur Bereitung des Essens notwendig ist.

Beobachtet auch die Vorschrift über das ungesäuerte Brot; denn an eben diesem Tage werde ich eure Heerscharen aus dem Lande Ägypten wegführen, so haltet den diesen Tag von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht als ewig gültige Feier.

Im ersten Monate, vom Abend des vierzehnten Tage des Monats, sollt ihr ungesäuertes Brot essen, bis zum Abend des einundzwanzigsten Tages desselben Monats.

Sieben Tage soll kein Sauerteig in euren Häusern zu finden sein; wer Gesäuertes ißt, dessen Seele soll weggetilgt werden aus der Gemeinde Israel, es sei ein Fremdling oder ein Eingeborner des Landes.

Nichts Gesäuertes sollt ihr essen; in allen euren Wohnungen sollt ihr ungesäuertes Brot genießen.

Da rief Moses alle Ältesten der Söhne Israels und gebot ihnen: Gehet hin, und nehmet je ein Tier für eure Familien, und opfert es als Phase.

Tauchet auch einen Büschel Ysop in das Blut, das auf der Schwelle steht, und besprenget damit die Oberschwelle und die beiden Türpfosten; aber keiner von euch gehe bis zum Morgen zur Türe des Hauses hinaus.

Denn der Herr wird vorübergehen und die Ägypter schlagen; und wenn er das Blut an der Oberschwelle und an den beiden Türpfosten erblickt, so wird er an der Tür des Hauses vorübergehen und dem Verderber nicht gestatten, in eure Häuser einzudringen und euch zu verletzen.

Halte diese Vorschrift als ein Gesetz für dich und deine Söhne bis in Ewigkeit!

Und wenn ihr in das Land gekommen seid, das der Herr euch geben wird, wie er verheißen hat, so sollt ihr diese Gebräuche beobachten.

Wenn dann eure Kinder euch fragen: Was bedeutet dieser Gottesdienst?

so saget ihnen: es ist das Opfer für den Vorübergang des Herrn, als er an den Häusern der Söhne Israels in Ägypten vorüberging und die Ägypter schlug, aber unsere Häuser verschonte. Da warf sich das Volk nieder und betete an.

Und die Söhne Israels gingen hin und taten, wie der Herr dem Moses und Aaron geboten hatte.

Die Zehnte Plage: Tod der Erstgeborenen

Es geschah aber um Mitternacht, da schlug der Herr alle Erstgeburt im Lande Ägypten, vom Erstgebornen Pharaos an, welcher auf seinem Thron saß, bis zum Erstgebornen der Gefangenen, die im Kerker war, und alle Erstgeburt des Viehes.

Da stand Pharao, und alle seine Diener, und ganz Ägypten des Nachts auf, und es erhob sich ein großes Geschrei in Ägypten; denn es war kein Haus, in dem nicht ein Toter lag.

Der 2. Mose

Und Pharao rief Moses und Aaron noch des Nachts und sprach: Machet euch auf und ziehet aus von meinem Volke, ihr und die Söhne Israels; gehet, bringet dem Herrn Opfer, wie ihr sagt.

Auch eure Schafe und euer Vieh nehmet mit, wie ihr es verlangt habt, und bei eurem Abzuge segnet mich!

Und die Ägypter drängten das Volk, eilends aus dem Lande zu ziehen, denn sie sagten: Wir werden alle des Todes sein!

Da nahm das Volk den neubereiteten Teig, bevor er gesäuert war, und band ihn in Tücher, und nahm ihn auf die Schultern.

Auch hatten die Söhne Israels getan, wie Moses befohlen, und sich von den Ägyptern silberne und goldene Gefäße und sehr viele Kleider erbeten.

Der Herr aber hatte das Volk bei den Ägyptern Gnade finden lassen, dass sie ihnen liehen, und so beraubten sie die Ägypter.

Da zogen die Söhne Israels von Ramesses nach Sokoth, bei sechshunderttausend streitbare Männer, nicht gerechnet die Kinder.

Es zog auch eine große Menge von allerlei Volk mit ihnen, sowie Schafe und Rinder, und alle Arten Tiere in sehr großer Menge.

Und sie bucken den Teig, den sie schon aus Ägypten vordem neubereitet mitgenommen hatten, zu ungesäuerten Aschenkuchen; den sie konnten dieselben nicht säuern, da die Ägypter sie drängten auszuziehen und keinen Verzug gestatteten; auch hatten sie keine Reisezehrung vorbereiten können.

Die Zeit aber, welche die Söhne Israels sich in Ägypten aufgehalten hatten, war vierhundert und dreißig Jahre.

Nach Ablauf derselben zog an demselben Tage die gesamte Heerschar des Herrn aus dem Lande Ägypten aus.

Diese Nacht ist eine Nacht der Feier für den Herrn, in der er sie aus dem Lande Ägypten weggeführt hat; diese Nacht sollen alle Söhne Israels feiern, von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht.

Passahvorschriften

Und der Herr sprach zu Moses und Aaron: Dies ist das heilige Gesetz des Phase: Kein Fremdling soll davon essen.

Aber jeder gekaufte Knecht soll beschnitten werden, und so darf er davon essen.

Ankömmlinge und Mietlinge sollen nicht davon essen.

In einem Hause soll es verzehrt werden, und ihr sollt nichts von seinem Fleische hinaustragen, noch ein Bein an ihm zerbrechen.

Die ganze Gemeinde der Söhne Israels soll dies tun.

Wenn aber ein Fremdling in euren Wohnort übersiedeln und das Phase des Herrn halten will, so soll er zuvor mit allen seinen männlichen Angehörigen beschnitten werden, alsdann mag er es der Vorschrift nach feiern, und er soll wie ein Landeseingeborner gelten; wer aber nicht beschnitten ist, soll nicht davon essen.

Ein und dasselbe Gesetz soll für den Eingebornen und den Ansiedler gelten, der sich unter euch aufhält.

Da taten alle Söhne Israels, wie der Herr dem Moses und Aaron geboten hatte.

Und an demselben Tage führte der Herr die Söhne Israels scharenweise aus dem Lande Ägypten hinweg.
