- Kapitel 25 -

(1 Chronicles 1:32–33)

And Abraham adds and takes a wife, and her name [is] Keturah;

and she bears to him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah.

And Jokshan has begotten Sheba and Dedan; and the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim;

and the sons of Midian [are] Ephah, and Epher, and Enoch, and Abidah, and Eldaah: all these [are] sons of Keturah.

And Abraham gives all that he has to Isaac;

and to the sons of the concubines whom Abraham has, Abraham has given gifts, and sends them away from his son Isaac (in his being yet alive) eastward, to the east country.

The Death of Abraham

And these [are] the days of the years of the life of Abraham, which he lived, one hundred and seventy-five years;

and Abraham expires, and dies in a good old age, aged and satisfied, and is gathered to his people.

And his sons Isaac and Ishmael bury him at the cave of Machpelah, at the field of Ephron, son of Zoar the Hittite, which [is] before Mamre—

the field which Abraham bought from the sons of Heth—there Abraham has been buried, and his wife Sarah.

And it comes to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blesses his son Isaac; and Isaac dwells by the Well of the Living One, my Beholder.

The Descendants of Ishmael

(1 Chronicles 1:28–31)

And these [are] the generations of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s handmaid, has borne to Abraham;

and these [are] the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their births: firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam,

and Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa,

Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah:

these are sons of Ishmael, and these [are] their names, by their villages, and by their towers; twelve princes according to their peoples.

And these [are] the years of the life of Ishmael, one hundred and thirty-seven years; and he expires, and dies, and is gathered to his people;

and they dwell from Havilah to Shur, which [is] before Egypt, in [your] going toward Asshur; in the presence of all his brothers has he fallen.

Jacob and Esau

(Malachi 1:1–5; Romans 9:6–29)

And these [are] the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son: Abraham has begotten Isaac;

and Isaac is a son of forty years in his taking Rebekah, daughter of Bethuel the Aramean, from Padan-Aram, sister of Laban the Aramean, to him for a wife.

And Isaac makes plea to YHWH before his wife, for she [is] barren: and YHWH accepts his plea, and his wife Rebekah conceives,

and the children struggle together within her, and she says, “If [it is] right—why [am] I thus?” And she goes to seek YHWH.

And YHWH says to her, “Two nations [are] in your womb, and two peoples from your bowels are parted; and the [one] people is stronger than the [other] people; and the older serves the younger.”

And her days to bear are fulfilled, and behold, twins [are] in her womb;

and the first comes out all red as a hairy robe, and they call his name Esau;

and afterward his brother has come out, and his hand is taking hold on Esau’s heel, and one calls his name Jacob; and Isaac [is] a son of sixty years in her bearing them.

And the youths grew, and Esau is a man acquainted [with] hunting, a man of the field; and Jacob [is] a plain man, inhabiting tents;

and Isaac loves Esau, for [his] game [is] in his mouth; and Rebekah is loving Jacob.

Esau Sells His Birthright

And Jacob boils stew, and Esau comes in from the field, and he [is] weary;

and Esau says to Jacob, “Please let me eat some of this red-red thing, for I [am] weary”; therefore [one] has called his name Edom;

and Jacob says, “Sell your birthright to me today.”

And Esau says, “Behold, I am going to die, and what is this to me—a birthright?”

And Jacob says, “Swear to me today”: and he swears to him, and sells his birthright to Jacob;

and Jacob has given bread and stew of lentils to Esau, and he eats, and drinks, and rises, and goes; and Esau despises the birthright.

Abraham und Keturah

(1. Chronik 1,32-33)

Abraham aber nahm noch ein anderes Weib, mit Namen Ketura.

Diese gebar ihm Zamran, Jeksan, Madan, Madian, Jesbok und Sue.

Und Jeksan zeugte Saba und Dadan; die Söhne Dadans waren die Assuriter, die Latusiter, und die Loomiter.

Von Madian aber stammt Epha ab, Opher, Henoch, Abida, und Eldaa; alle diese sind Söhne der Ketura.

Und Abraham gab alles, was er besaß, dem Isaak;

den Söhnen der Nebenfrauen aber gab er Geschenke und ließ sie noch bei seinen Lebzeiten wegziehen von seinem Sohne Isaak, fern in das Land gegen Morgen.

Abrahams Tod und Begräbnis

Die Lebenstage Abrahams aber waren hundert und fünfundsiebzig Jahre.

Und er verschied und starb in gutem Alter, vorgerückten Alters und reich an Tagen; und er ward zu seinem Volke versammelt.

Da begruben ihn seine Söhne Isaak und Ismael in der Doppelhöhle, welche auf dem Acker Ephrons, des Sohnes Seors, des Hethiters, liegt, Mambre gegenüber,

den er von den Söhnen Heths gekauft hatte, dort wurde auch er bestattet, wie Sara, sein Weib.

Und nach seinem Tode segnete Gott seinen Sohn Isaak, der bei dem Brunnen wohnte, welcher der Brunnen des Lebenden und Schauenden heißt.

Die Familien von Ismael und Isaak

(1. Chronik 1,28-31)

Das ist das Geschlecht Ismaels, des Sohnes Abrahams, den ihm die Ägypterin Agar, Saras Magd, gebar:

und dies sind die Namen seiner Söhne nach ihren Namen und Geschlechtsfolgen. Der Erstgeborene Ismaels Nabajoth; dann Kedar, Adbeel, Mabsam,

Masma, Duma, Massa,

Hadar, Thema, Jethur, Naphis, und Kedma.

Dies sind die Söhne Ismaels und dies ihre Namen nach ihren Gehöften und Dörfern, zwölf Fürsten ihrer Stämme.

Der Lebensjahre Ismaels wurden hundert und siebenunddreißig, und er verschied, und starb, und wurde zu seinem Volke versammelt.

Er wohnte aber von Hevila bis Sur welches Ägypten gegenüberliegt, wenn man in der Richtung auf Assyrien zureist. Er starb angesichts aller seiner Brüder.

(Maleachi 1,1-5; Römer 9,6-29)

Dies ist das Geschlecht Isaaks, des Sohnes Abrahams: Abraham zeugte den Isaak.

Als dieser vierzig Jahre alt war, nahm er Rebekka, die Tochter Bathuels, des Syrers aus Mesopotamien, Labans Schwester, zum Weibe.

Isaak aber flehte zu dem Herrn für sein Weib, weil sie unfruchtbar war; und er erhörte ihn und ließ Rebekka empfangen.

Es stießen sich aber die Kinder in ihrem Leibe. Da sprach sie: Wenn es mir so ergehen sollte, warum musste ich da empfangen? Und sie ging hin, den Herrn zu befragen.

Er aber antwortete und sprach: Zwei Völker sind in deinem Leibe, und zwei Stämme werden aus deinem Schoße hervorgehen, und ein Volk wird dem andern überlegen sein, und der Ältere wird dem Jüngeren dienen,

Als nun die Zeit herankam, dass sie gebären sollte, siehe, da fand sich, dass Zwillinge in ihrem Leibe waren.

Der, welcher zuerst herauskam, war rötlich und ganz haarig, wie ein Pelz; und sein Name war Esau genannt. Der andere, der sogleich nachkam, hielt die Ferse seines Bruders mit der Hand fest; darum nannte sie ihn Jakob.

Sechzig Jahre war Isaak alt, als ihm die Kinder geboren wurden.

Als sie nun heranwuchsen, ward Esau ein tüchtiger Jäger und ein Ackersmann; Jakob aber war ein einfacher Mann, der in den Zelten wohnte.

Isaak liebte Esau, weil er von seiner Jagdbeute aß; und Rebekka liebte Jakob.

Esau verkauft sein Erstgeburtsrecht

Einst kochte nun Jakob ein Gericht, da kam Esau zu ihm müde vom Felde.

Und er sprach zu ihm: Gib mir von dem roten Gekochten da, denn ich bin überaus ermattet. Daher ward er Edom genannt.

Da sprach Jakob zu ihm: Verkaufe mir dein Erstgeburtsrecht!

Er antwortete: Siehe, ich sterbe, was soll mir das Erstgeburtsrecht nützen?

Und Jakob sprach: Schwöre mir denn! Da schwur Esau ihm und verkaufte sein Erstgeburtsrecht.

Nun empfing er Brot und das Linsengericht, und aß und trank, und ging davon; und er achtete es gering, dass er sein Erstgeburtsrecht verkauft hatte.
