- Kapitel 1 -

(2 Chronicles 28:5–15)

The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the Lord hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.

The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib: but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.

Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the Lord , they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.(a)

Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.(c)

From the sole of the foot even unto the head there is no soundness in it; but wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.(d)

Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.(e)

And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.

Except the Lord of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.

Meaningless Offerings

Hear the word of the Lord , ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.

To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the Lord : I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.(f)

When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?(g)

Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.(h)

Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.

And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.(i)

Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;

Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.(k)

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord : though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:

But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

The Corruption of Zion

How is the faithful city become an harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers.

Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water:

Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.

Therefore saith the Lord, the Lord of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies:

And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:(l)

And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city.

Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.(m)

And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners shall be together, and they that forsake the Lord shall be consumed.(n)

For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the gardens that ye have chosen.

For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fadeth, and as a garden that hath no water.

And the strong shall be as tow, and the maker of it as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them.(o)

Gesicht Isaias, des Sohnes des Amos, welches er über Juda und Jerusalem geschaut, in den Tagen Ozias, Joathans, Achaz und Ezechias, der Könige von Juda.

Die Schlechtigkeit von Juda

Höret, ihr Himmel! und horche auf, Erde! denn der Herr redet. Söhne habe ich aufgezogen und erhöht, sie aber haben mich verschmäht.

Es kennt der Ochs seinen Eigentümer und der Esel die Krippe seines Herrn, Israel aber kennt mich nicht und mein Volk ist ohne Verständnis.

Wehe dem sündigen Volk, dem Volke mit Missetat belastet, dem Geschlechte von Bösewichtern, den lasterhaften Söhnen! Sie haben den Herrn verlassen, den Heiligen Israels gelästert, sind nach rückwärts abgewendet.

Wohin soll ich euch ferner noch schlagen, da ihr Sünde auf Sünde häuft? Das ganze Haupt ist krank, das ganze Herz siech.

Von der Fußsohle bis zum Scheitel ist nichts Heiles an ihm, Wunden und Quetschungen und schwellende Beulen, nicht verbunden, nicht mit Heilmitteln versorgt noch mit Öl gelindert.

Euer Land ist verödet, eure Städte sind niedergebrannt, eure Fluren verzehren Fremde vor euern Augen und sie sind verödet wie durch feindliche Verheerung.

Und die Tochter Sion steht verlassen wie eine Hütte im Weinberg, wie eine Nachthütte im Gurkenfelde und wie eine Stadt, die verheert ist.

Hätte der Herr der Heerscharen uns nicht einen Samen übriggelassen, so wären wir wie Sodoma geworden und Gomorrha würden wir gleichen.

Höret des Herrn Wort, ihr Fürsten von Sodoma! vernimm das Gesetz unsers Gottes, Volk von Gomorrha!

Was soll mir die Menge eurer Schlachtopfer? spricht der Herr. Ich bin satt; Brandopfer von Widdern und das Fett von Mastvieh, das Blut von Rindern und Lämmern und Böcken begehre ich nicht.

Wenn ihr vor mein Angesicht kommt, wer forderte dies von euch, dass ihr in meinen Vorhöfen umhergehet?

Bringet nicht ferner unnütze Opfer mehr; Räucherwerk ist mir ein Greuel, Neumond, Sabbat und andere Feste ertrage ich nicht mehr, eure Versammlungen sind gottlos.

Eure Neumonde und eure Festlichkeiten hasst meine Seele; sie sind mir lästig geworden, ich bin es müde, sie zu ertragen.

Und wenn ihr eure Hände ausstreckt, werde ich mein Angesicht von euch abwenden; und wenn ihr noch so viel betet, werde ich euch doch nicht erhören, denn eure Hände sind voll Blutschuld.

Waschet euch, reiniget euch, schaffet die Bosheit eurer Anschläge aus meinen Augen; lasset ab, verkehrt zu handeln!

Lernet Gutes tun, trachtet nach dem, was Recht ist, kommet dem Unterdrückten zu Hilfe, verschaffet der Waise ihr Recht, verteidiget die Witwe!

Alsdann kommet und rechtet mit mir! spricht der Herr. Wenn eure Sünden wie Scharlach sind, sollen sie doch weiß werden wie Schnee; und wenn sie rot sind wie Purpur, sollen sie weiß werden wie Wolle.

Wenn ihr willig seid und auf mich hört, so werdet ihr die Güter des Landes genießen.

Wenn ihr aber nicht wollt und mich zum Zorne reizt, so wird das Schwert euch vertilgen; denn der Mund des Herrn hat gesprochen.

Die entartete Stadt

Wie ist zur Buhlerin geworden die treue Stadt, die voll des Rechtes war? Gerechtigkeit wohne in ihr, jetzt aber Mörder!

Dein Silber ist zu Schlacken geworden, dein Wein ist mit Wasser vermischt.

Deine Fürsten sind treulos und Diebesgenossen; alle lieben Geschenke, haschen nach Vergeltungen; der Waise sprechen sie nicht Recht und die Sache der Witwe kommt nicht vor sie.

Darum spricht der Herr, der Gott der Heerscharen, der Starke Israels: Wehe, ich will mich getrösten an meinen Feinden und Rache nehmen an meinen Widersachern!

Und ich werde meine Hand gegen dich wenden und deine Schlacken rein ausschmelzen und all dein Blei wegschaffen

und ich werde dir wieder Richter geben, wie sie früher waren, und Ratgeber, wie von alters; alsdann wird man dich die Stadt der Gerechtigkeit nennen, die getreue Stadt.

Sion wird durch Gericht erlöst und durch Gerechtigkeit wird es wiederhergestellt werden.

Aber die Frevler und Sünder wird er allzumal vertilgen und die, welche den Herrn verlassen haben, werden vernichtet werden.

Denn sie werden zuschanden werden der Götzenbilder wegen, denen sie geopfert; und ihr werdet erröten über die Gärten, die ihr erwählt,

wenn ihr wie Eichen sein werdet, deren Blätter abfallen, und wie ein Garten ohne Wasser.

Und eure Kraft wird wie glimmende Wergasche sein und euer Tun wie ein Funke! beide werden zumal entbrennen und niemand wird sein, der lösche.
