- Kapitel 17 -

(2 Samuel 7:1–17)

Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord remaineth under curtains.

Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.

And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the Lord , Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:

For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.(a)

Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people, saying, Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?

Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, even from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel:(b)

And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth.

Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the beginning,

And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the Lord will build thee an house.

And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.

I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:

But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.

According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

David’s Prayer of Thanksgiving

(2 Samuel 7:18–29)

And David the king came and sat before the Lord , and said, Who am I, O Lord God, and what is mine house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?

And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O Lord God.

What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant.

O Lord , for thy servant’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all this greatness, in making known all these great things.(c)

O Lord , there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?

For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, Lord , becamest their God.

Therefore now, Lord , let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever, and do as thou hast said.

Let it even be established, that thy name may be magnified for ever, saying, The Lord of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.

For thou, O my God, hast told thy servant that thou wilt build him an house: therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.(d)

And now, Lord , thou art God, and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:

Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O Lord , and it shall be blessed for ever.(e)

Gottes Bund mit David

(2. Samuel 7,1-17)

Als nun David in seinem Hause wohnte, sprach er zu dem Propheten Nathan: Siehe, ich wohne in einem Hause von Zedern; die Lade des Bundes des Herrn aber weilt unter Fellen.

Nathan sprach zu David: Alles, was du in deinem Herzen hast, tue; denn Gott ist mit dir.

Da erging in dieser Nacht das Wort Gottes an Nathan also:

Gehe hin und sprich zu meinem Diener David: So spricht der Herr: Nicht du sollst mir ein Haus zur Wohnung bauen!

Denn ich habe in keinem Hause geweilt, seit der Zeit, da ich Israel herausgeführt habe, bis auf diesen Tag, vielmehr wechselte ich immer die Orte für das Zelt und blieb im Gezelte

mit ganz Israel. Habe ich je zu einem der Richter Israels, denen ich geboten, mein Volk zu weiden, gesprochen, dass ich sagte: Warum habt ihr mir kein Haus von Zedern gebaut?

So rede denn jetzt zu meinem Diener David: So spricht der Herr der Heerscharen: Ich habe dich, da du auf der Weide den Schafen nachgingest, weggenommen, damit du über mein Volk Israel Fürst seiest.

Und ich war mit dir, wohin du auch gingest, und tötete alle deine Feinde vor dir und ich habe dir einen Namen gemacht, wie der eines Großen, die auf Erden gefeiert werden.

Und ich habe meinem Volke Israel eine Stätte gegeben, dort wird es gepflanzt werden und wohnen und fürder nicht beunruhigt werden; und die Söhne der Ungerechtigkeit werden sie nicht bedrücken wie vordem,

von der Zeit an, da ich meinem Volke Israel Richter gab, und ich habe alle deine Feinde gedemütigt. Nun aber künde ich dir an, dass der Herr dir ein Haus erbauen wird.

Und wenn einst deine Tage vollendet sind und du zu deinen Vätern gehest, so werde ich dir einen Nachkommen erwecken, der einer von deinen Söhnen sein wird; und ich will seine Herrschaft festigen.

Dieser soll mir ein Haus bauen und ich werde seinen Thron befestigen in Ewigkeit.

Ich werde ihm Vater sein und er soll mir Sohn sein und ich werde ihm mein Erbarmen nicht entziehen, wie ich es dem entzogen habe, der vor dir war.

Und ich will ihn in mein Haus und in mein Reich auf ewig setzen und sein Thron soll festgegründet sein bis in Ewigkeit.

Allen diesen Worten und diesem ganzen Gesichte gemäß redete Nathan zu David.

(2. Samuel 7,18-29)

Da ging der König David hin und ließ sich vor dem Herrn nieder und sprach: Wer bin ich, Herr, Gott! und was ist mein Haus, dass du mir solches gewährt hast?

Und auch dies schien in deinen Augen noch wenig, denn du gabst dem Hause deines Dieners auch für die Zukunft eine Zusage und hast mich über alle Menschen an Ansehen erhöht, Herr, Gott!

Was kann David noch weiter sagen, da du so deinen Diener verherrlicht und anerkannt hast?

Herr! um deines Dieners willen hast du nach deinem Herzen all dies Große getan und wolltest, dass die Großtaten alle kund werden.

Herr! Dir ist niemand gleich und kein anderer Gott ist außer dir, nach alledem, was wir mit unsern Ohren gehört haben.

Denn wo ist wohl ein anderes Volk, wie dein Volk Israel, das einzige Volk auf Erden, zu dem Gott hinging, es zu befreien und zu seinem Volke zu machen und mit großer Macht und mit Schrecken die Völker zu vertreiben, vor demselben Volke, das er aus Ägypten befreit hat?

Und du hast dir dein Volk Israel auf ewig zu deinem Volke bestimmt und du, Herr! bist sein Gott geworden.

Nun also, Herr! lass das Wort, das du zu deinem Diener und über sein Haus geredet hast, in Kraft bleiben auf ewig und tue, wie du gesprochen hast.

Es währe dein Name und werde verherrlicht in Ewigkeit und man spreche: Der Herr der Heerscharen ist der Gott Israels und das Haus Davids, seines Dieners, sei beständig vor ihm.

Denn du, Herr, mein Gott! hast das Ohr deines Dieners eröffnet, dass du ihm ein Haus erbauen wollest, und darum hat dein Diener Mut gefunden, vor dir zu beten.

Nun denn, o Herr! du bist Gott und hast deinem Diener so große Wohltaten verkündigt

und hast begonnen, das Haus deines Dieners zu segnen, dass es immer vor dir bestehe; denn wenn du es segnest, o Herr, wird es auf ewig gesegnet sein!
