- Kapitel 127 -

Children are an inheritance from the Lord

A song of degrees, or Psalme of Salomon. Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vaine that build it: except the Lord keepe the citie, the keeper watcheth in vaine.

It is in vaine for you to rise earely, and to lie downe late, and eate the bread of sorow: but he wil surely giue rest to his beloued.

Beholde, children are the inheritance of the Lord, and the fruite of the wombe his rewarde.

As are the arrowes in the hand of ye strong man: so are the children of youth.

Blessed is the man, that hath his quiuer full of them: for they shall not be ashamed, when they speake with their enemies in the gate.

Kinder sind ein Erbe des HERRN

Stufengesang Salomons. Wenn der Herr nicht das Haus baut, so mühen sich die Bauleute umsonst; wenn der Herr nicht die Stadt behütet, so wacht der Hüter umsonst.

Vergeblich ist es für euch, vor Tage aufzustehen; stehet immer auf, nachdem ihr lange gesessen, die ihr das Brot der Schmerzen esset! während er seinen Geliebten Schlaf gibt.

Sehet, vom Herrn verliehener Besitz sind Kinder, ein Lohn von ihm die Leibesfrucht.

Wie Pfeile in der Hand eines Helden, so sind die Kinder der Vertriebenen.

Glückselig der Mann, der sein Verlangen damit erfüllt sieht; er wird nicht zuschanden, wenn er mit seinen Feinden im Tore rechtet.
