- Kapitel 4 -

Then Moses answered, and said, But lo, they will not beleeue me, nor hearken vnto my voyce: for they will say, The Lord hath not appeared vnto thee.

And the Lord said vnto him, What is that in thine hande? And he answered, A rod.

Then said he, Cast it on the ground. So he cast it on the grounde, and it was turned into a serpent: and Moses fled from it.

Againe the Lord saide vnto Moses, Put foorth thine hand, and take it by the tayle. Then he put foorth his hande and caught it, and it was turned into a rod in his hand.

Do this that they may beleeue, that the Lord God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Izhak, and the God of Iaakob hath appeared vnto thee.

Moses’ Hand

And the Lord saide furthermore vnto him, Thrust nowe thine hand into thy bosome. And he thrust his hand into his bosome, and when he tooke it out againe, behold, his hand was leprous as snowe.

Moreouer he said, Put thine hand into thy bosome againe. So he put his hande into his bosome againe, and pluckt it out of his bosome, and behold, it was turned againe as his other flesh.

So shall it be, if they wil not beleeue thee, neither obey the voyce of ye first signe, yet shall they beleeue for the voyce of the seconde signe.

But if they will not yet beleeue these two signes, neither obey vnto thy voyce, then shalt thou take of the water of the riuer, and powre it vpon the drie lande: so the water which thou shalt take out of the riuer, shalbe turned to blood vpon the drie land.

The Appointment of Aaron

But Moses said vnto the Lord, Oh my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither at any time haue bene, nor yet since thou hast spoken vnto thy seruant: but I am slowe of speach and slowe of tongue.

Then the Lord said vnto him, Who hath giuen the mouth to man? or who hath made the domme, or the deafe, or him that seeth, or the blinde? haue not I the Lord?

Therefore goe nowe, and I will be with thy mouth, and will teach thee what thou shalt say.

But he saide, Oh my Lord, sende, I pray thee, by the hande of him, whome thou shouldest sende.

Then the Lord was verie angrie with Moses, and said, Doe not I know Aaron thy brother the Leuite, that he himselfe shall speake? for loe, he commeth also foorth to meete thee, and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.

Therefore thou shalt speake vnto him, and put the wordes in his mouth, and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye ought to doe.

And he shall be thy spokesman vnto the people: and he shall be, euen he shall be as thy mouth, and thou shalt be to him as God.

Moreouer thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do miracles.

Moses Leaves for Egypt

Therefore Moses went and returned to Iethro his father in lawe, and said vnto him, I pray thee, let me goe, and returne to my brethren, which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet aliue. Then Iethro said to Moses, Go in peace.

(For the Lord had said vnto Moses in Midian, Goe, returne to Egypt: for they are all dead which went about to kill thee)

Then Moses tooke his wife, and his sonnes, and put them on an asse, and returned towarde the lande of Egypt, and Moses tooke the rod of God in his hand.

And the Lord saide vnto Moses, When thou art entred and come into Egypt againe, see that thou doe all the wonders before Pharaoh, which I haue put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, and he shall not let the people goe.

Then thou shalt say to Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord, Israel is my sonne, euen my first borne.

Wherefore I say to thee, Let my sonne go, that he may serue me: if thou refuse to let him goe, beholde, I will slay thy sonne, euen thy first borne.

And as he was by the waye in the ynne, the Lord met him, and would haue killed him.

Then Zipporah tooke a sharpe knife, and cut away the foreskinne of her sonne, and cast it at his feete, and said, Thou art indeede a bloody husband vnto me.

So he departed from him. Then she saide, O bloodie husband (because of the circumcision)

The People Believe Moses and Aaron

Then the Lord saide vnto Aaron, Goe meete Moses in the wildernesse. And he went and mette him in the Mount of God, and kissed him.

Then Moses tolde Aaron all the wordes of the Lord, who had sent him, and all the signes wherewith he had charged him.

So went Moses and Aaron, and gathered all the Elders of the children of Israel.

And Aaron told all the wordes, which the Lord had spoken vnto Moses, and he did the miracles in the sight of the people,

And the people beleeued, and when they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel, and had looked vpon their tribulation, they bowed downe, and worshipped.

Wunderbare Zeichen für den Pharao

Moses antwortete und sprach: Sie werden mir nicht glauben und auf meine Stimme nicht hören, sondern sagen: Der Herr ist dir nicht erschienen.

Da sprach er zu ihm: Was hältst du da in deiner Hand? Er antwortete: Einen Stab.

Da sprach der Herr: Wirf ihn hin auf die Erde! Er warf ihn hin, da ward er in eine Schlange verwandelt, so dass Moses die Flucht ergriff.

Und der Herr sprach: Strecke deine Hand aus und ergreife sie beim Schweife! Da streckte er seine Hand aus und erfasste sie, und sie ward wieder zum Stabe.

Damit sie glauben, sprach er, dass dir der Herr, der Gott ihrer Väter, der Gott Abrahams, der Gott Isaaks und der Gott Jakobs erschienen ist.

Und abermals sprach der Herr: Stecke deine Hand in deinen Busen! Als er sie nun in den Busen steckte und wieder herauszog, war sie aussätzig geworden und weiß wie Schnee.

Und er sprach: Stecke deine Hand nochmals in deinen Busen! Da steckte er sie hinein, und als er sie wieder herauszog, war sie dem andern Fleische gleich.

Wenn sie dir nicht glauben, sprach er, und auf das erste Wunderzeichen nicht folgen sollten, so werden sie auf das andere Wunderzeichen hin glauben.

Wenn sie aber auch auf diese beiden Wunderzeichen hin nicht glauben und auf deine Stimme nicht hören, so nimm Wasser aus dem Strome und gieß es auf den Boden, so wird alles, was du aus dem Strome schöpfest, sich in Blut verwandeln.

Da sprach Moses: Ich bitte, Herr, ich bin von jeher unberedt; und seit du zu deinem Knechte geredet hast, ist meine Zunge noch ungelenker und schwerfälliger geworden.

Da sprach der Herr zu ihm: Wer hat den Mund des Menschen geschaffen? Oder wer hat den Stummen und Tauben, Sehenden und Blinden gemacht? Bin nicht ich es?

So gehe also hin, ich werde mit deinem Munde sein und dich lehren, was du sagen sollst.

Er aber sprach: Ich bitte, Herr, sende, den du senden willst.

Da ward der Herr über Moses zornig und sprach: Aaron, dein Bruder, der Levit, ist, wie ich weiß, beredt, siehe, er kommt dir entgegen und wird sich von Herzen freuen, wenn er dich erblickt.

Rede mit ihm und lege meine Worte in seinen Mund: und ich werde mit deinem Mund und seinem Munde sein und werde euch zeigen, was ihr tun sollt.

So soll denn er statt deiner zu dem Volke reden und dein Mund sein; du aber sollst ihn in dem leiten, was Gottes Sache ist.

Nimm auch diesen Stab da in deine Hand, mit ihm sollst du die Wunderzeichen tun.

Mose geht nach Ägypten

Da ging Moses hin, und kehrte zu Jethro, seinem Schwiegervater, zurück, und sprach zu ihm: Ich will hinziehen und zu meinen Brüdern nach Ägypten zurückkehren, um zu sehen, ob sie noch am Leben sind. Jethro sprach zu ihm: Ziehe hin in Frieden!

Und der Herr sprach zu Moses in Madian: Mache dich auf und kehre nach Ägypten zurück; denn alle, die dir nach dem Leben trachteten, sind gestorben.

Alsobald nahm Moses sein Weib und seine Söhne, setzte sie auf einen Esel, du zog nach Ägypten zurück, den Stab Gottes in seiner Hand tragend.

Und der Herr sprach zu ihm, als er nach Ägypten zurückzog: Siehe zu, dass du alle Wundertaten, welche ich in deine Hand gegeben habe, vor Pharao tuest; ich werde sein Herz verstocken, und er wird das Volk nicht ziehen lassen.

Sage zu ihm: Dies spricht der Herr: Israel ist mein erstgeborener Sohn.

Habe ich dir befohlen: Lass meinen Sohn ziehen, dass er mir diene, und du willst ihn nicht ziehen lassen, siehe, so töte ich deinen erstgeborenen Sohn.

Als er nun auf der Reise war, trat ihm der Herr an der Stätte der Rast entgegen und wollte ihn töten.

Da nahm Sephora alsbald einen scharfen Stein, und beschnitt damit die Vorhaut ihres Sohnes, und berührte seine Füße, und sprach: Ein Blutbräutigam bist du mir!

Und er ließ von ihm ab, nachdem sie gesagt hatte: Ein Blutbräutigam, um der Beschneidung willen.

Der Herr aber sprach zu Aaron: Gehe Moses entgegen in die Wüste! Da ging er ihm an den Berg Gottes entgegen und küsste ihn.

Und Moses erzählte dem Aaron alle Worte des Herrn, mit denen er ihn gesandt, und die Wunderzeichen, welche er ihm anbefohlen hatte.

Hierauf gingen sie miteinander hin und versammelten alle Ältesten der Söhne Israels.

Und Aaron verkündete alle Worte, die der Herr zu Moses geredet hatte; und dieser tat die Wunderzeichen vor dem Volke,

und das Volk glaubte. Und da sie hörten, dass der Herr die Söhne Israels heimgesucht und ihr Elend angesehen habe, warfen sie sich zur Erde und beteten an.
