- Kapitel 9 -

(1 Kings 10:1–13)

And when the Queene of Sheba heard of the fame of Salomon, she came to proue Salomon with hard questions at Ierusalem, with a very great traine, and camels that bare sweete odours and much golde, and precious stones: and when she came to Salomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.

And Salomon declared her all her questions, and there was nothing hid from Salomon, which he declared not vnto her.

Then the Queene of Sheba sawe the wisedome of Salomon, and the house that he had buylt,

And the meate of his table, and the sitting of his seruants, and the order of his wayters, and their apparel, and his butlers, and their apparel, and his burnt offrings which he offred in the house of the Lord, and she was greatly astonied.

And she saide to the King, It was a true worde which I heard in mine owne lande of thy sayings, and of thy wisedome:

Howbeit I beleeued not their report, vntil I came, and mine eyes had seene it: and beholde, the one halfe of thy great wisedom was not told me: for thou exceedest the fame that I heard.

Happie are thy men, and happie are these thy seruants, which stande before thee alway, and heare thy wisedome.

Blessed be the Lord thy God, which loued thee, to set thee on his throne as King, in the steade of the Lord thy God: because thy God loueth Israel, to establish it for euer, therefore hath he made thee King ouer them, to execute iudgement and iustice.

Then she gaue the King sixe score talents of golde, and of sweete odours exceeding much and precious stones: neither was there such sweete odours since, as the Queene of Sheba gaue vnto King Salomon.

And the seruants also of Huram, and the seruants of Salomon which brought golde from Ophir, brought Algummim wood and precious stones.

And the King made of the Algummim wood staires in the house of the Lord, and in the Kings house, and harpes and violes for singers: and there was no such seene before in the lande of Iudah.

And King Salomon gaue to the Queene of Sheba euery pleasant thing that she asked, besides for that which she had brought vnto the King: so she returned and went to her owne countrey, both she, and her seruants.

Solomon’s Wealth and Splendor

(1 Kings 10:14–29)

Also the weight of golde that came to Salomon in one yeere, was sixe hundreth three score and sixe talents of golde,

Besides that which chapmen and marchants brought: and all the Kings of Arabia, and the princes of the countrey brought golde and siluer to Salomon.

And King Salomon made two hundreth targets of beaten golde, and sixe hundreth shekels of beaten golde went to one target,

And three hundreth shieldes of beaten golde: three hundreth shekels of golde went to one shielde, and the King put them in the house of the wood of Lebanon.

And the King made a great throne of yuorie and ouerlaid it with pure golde.

And the throne had sixe steppes, with a footestoole of gold fastened to the throne, and stayes on either side on the place of the seate, and two lyons standing by the stayes.

And twelue lyons stoode there on the sixe steps on either side: there was not the like made in any kingdome.

And all King Salomons drinking vessels were of golde, and all the vessels of the house of the wood of Lebanon were of pure gold: for siluer was nothing esteemed in ye dayes of Salomon.

For the Kings ships went to Tarshish with the seruants of Huram, euery three yeere once came the ships of Tarshish, and brought golde, and siluer, yuorie, and apes, and peacockes.

So King Salomon excelled all the Kings of the earth in riches and wisedome.

And all the Kings of the earth sought the presence of Salomon, to heare his wisedome that God had put in his heart.

And they brought euery man his present, vessels of siluer, and vessels of golde, and raiment, armour, and sweet odours, horses, and mules, from yeere to yeere.

And Salomon had foure thousand stalles of horses, and charets, and twelue thousand horsmen, whom he bestowed in the charet cities, and with the King at Ierusalem.

And he reigned ouer all the Kings from the Riuer euen vnto the land of the Philistims, and to the border of Egypt.

And the King gaue siluer in Ierusalem, as stones, and gaue cedar trees as the wilde fig trees, that are aboundant in the plaine.

And they brought vnto Salomon horses out of Egypt, and out of all landes.

The Death of Solomon

(1 Kings 11:41–43)

Concerning the rest of the actes of Salomon first and last, are they not written in the booke of Nathan the Prophet, and in the prophecie of Ahiiah the Shilonite, and in the visions of Ieedo the Seer against Ieroboam the sonne of Nebat?

And Salomon reigned in Ierusalem ouer all Israel fourtie yeeres.

And Salomon slept with his fathers, and they buryed him in the citie of Dauid his father: and Rehoboam his sonne reigned in his steade.

Das Lob der Königin von Saba über Salomo

(1. Könige 10,1-13)

Als auch die Königin von Saba den Ruf von Salomon hörte, kam sie, ihn mit schwierigen Fragen auf die Probe zu stellen, nach Jerusalem, mit großer Pracht, mit Kamelen, die Spezereien und sehr viel Geld und kostbare Steine trugen. Diese kam zu Salomon und redete mit ihm von allem, was sie sich vorgenommen hatte.

Und Salomon erklärte ihr alles, was sie vorgelegt hatte; und es war nichts, was er ihr nicht dargelegt hätte.

Da sie nun die Weisheit Salomons sah und das Haus, das er gebaut,

dazu die Speisen seines Tisches und die Wohnungen seiner Knechte und die Verrichtungen seiner Diener und ihre Gewänder und die Mundschenken und ihre Gewänder und die Schlachtopfer, die er im Hause des Herrn darzubringen pflegte, geriet sie vor Staunen außer sich.

Und sie sprach zu dem König: Wahr ist es, was ich in meinem Lande von deinen Taten und deiner Weisheit vernommen habe.

Ich habe denen, welche es erzählten, nicht glauben wollen, bis ich selbst kam und mit eigenen Augen es sah und erfuhr, dass mir kaum die Hälfte von deiner Weisheit berichtet worden ist; du hast den Ruf durch deine erhabenen Vorzüge übertroffen.

Glückselig deine Leute und glückselig deine Diener, die allezeit vor dir stehen und deine Weisheit hören!

Gepriesen sei der Herr, dein Gott, der dich auf seinen Thron hat setzen wollen als König des Herrn, deines Gottes! Weil Gott Israel liebt und es auf ewig erhalten will, darum hat er dich zum Könige über dasselbe gesetzt, Recht und Gerechtigkeit zu üben.

Hierauf gab sie dem Könige hundertundzwanzig Talente Goldes und Spezereien in großer Menge und kostbare Steine; nie sind solche Spezereien noch gewesen, wie die waren, welche die Königin von Saba dem König Salomon gab.

Aber auch die Knechte Hirams brachten mit den Knechten Salomons Gold von Ophir und Sandelholz und sehr kostbare Steine

und der König machte aus dem Sandelholz Stufen im Hause des Herrn und im Hause des Königs, sowie Zithern und Harfen für die Sänger; solches Holz ist zuvor niemals im Lande Juda gesehen worden.

Der König Salomon aber gab der Königin von Saba alles, was sie wollte und begehrte, und noch viel mehr, als sie ihm gebracht hatte; und sie kehrte zurück und zog fort mit ihren Dienern in ihr Land.

Salomos großer Reichtum

(1. Könige 10,14-29)

Das Gewicht des Goldes aber, das Salomon Jahr für Jahr gebracht ward, betrug sechshundertsechsundsechzig Talente Goldes,

außer der Summe, welche die Abgesandten der verschiedenen Völker und die Händler zu bringen pflegten; dazu brachten alle Könige Arabiens und die Statthalter des Landes dem Salomon Gold und Silber.

Und der König Salomon ließ zweihundert goldene Speere aus einer Summe von sechshundert Goldstücken machen, so viel wurden zu jedem Speer verwendet;

und dreihundert goldene Schilde von dreihundert Goldstücken, mit denen ein jeder Schild überzogen ward; diese hinterlegte der König im Zeughause, das mit Bäumen umgeben war.

Ferner ließ der König einen großen Thron von Elfenbein herstellen und ihn mit dem lautersten Golde überziehen.

Ebenso sechs Stufen, auf denen man zu dem Throne hinaufstieg, und einen goldenen Fußschemel und zwei Armlehnen auf beiden Seiten und zwei Löwen, welche neben den Armlehnen standen.

dazu noch zwölf andere kleine Löwen, welche auf den sechs Stufen zu beiden Seiten standen; ein solcher Thron ist noch nie in einem Reiche gewesen.

Und alle Tischgeräte des Königs waren von Gold, so wie die Gerätschaften des Libanonwaldhauses vom reinsten Golde waren; denn das Silber ward in jenen Tagen für nichts geachtet.

Die Schiffe des Königs fuhren nämlich mit den Knechten Hirams einmal in drei Jahren nach Tharsis und brachten von da Gold, Silber, Elfenbein, Affen und Pfauen.

So übertraf Salomon an Reichtum und Herrlichkeit alle Könige auf Erden.

Und alle Könige der Erde wünschten das Angesicht Salomons zu schauen, um die Weisheit zu hören, welche ihm Gott in das Herz gegeben hatte,

und brachten ihm Geschenke, silberne und goldene Geräte, Kleider, Waffen, Spezereien, Rosse und Maultiere, Jahr für Jahr.

Und Salomon hatte vierzigtausend Rosse in Ställen und zwölftausend Wagen und Reiter, diese legte er in die Wagenstädte und nach Jerusalem, wo der König war.

Er übte die Herrschaft über alle Könige aus, die vom Strome Euphrat bis zu dem Lande der Philister und bis an die Grenzen von Ägypten wohnten.

Und er machte, dass das Silber in Jerusalem in solcher Menge war wie die Steine, und der Zedern so viele wie wilde Feigenbäume, die in den Ebenen wachsen.

Rosse aber wurden ihm aus Ägypten und aus allen Ländern zugeführt.

Tod Salomos

(1. Könige 11,41-43)

Die übrige Geschichte der Taten Salomons aber, der früheren wie der späteren, ist aufgeschrieben in der Geschichte des Propheten Nathan und in den Büchern des Siloniters Ahia, auch in dem Gesichte des Sehers Addo wider Jeroboam, den Sohn Nabats.

Und Salomon herrschte in Jerusalem über ganz Israel vierzig Jahre.

Und da er zu seinen Vätern entschlief, begruben sie ihn in der Davidsstadt und sein Sohn Roboam ward König an seiner Statt.
