- Kapitel 6 -

An address to princes to seek after wisdom: she is easily found by those that seek her.

Wisdom is better than power, and a prudent man is better than a powerful one.

Therefore, hear, O kings, and understand; learn, you judges of the ends of the earth.(a)

Listen closely, you who hold the attention of the crowds, and who please yourselves by disturbing the nations.(b)

For power has been given to you from the Lord and strength from the Most High, who will examine your works and scrutinize your thoughts.

For, when you were ministers of his kingdom, you did not judge correctly, nor keep the law of justice, nor walk according to the will of God.

Horribly and quickly he will appear to you, because he will make a severe judgment for those who are in charge.

For, to the little, great mercy is granted, but the powerful will endure powerful torment.

For the Lord will not exempt anyone’s character, nor will he stand in awe of anyone’s greatness, because he himself made the little and the great, and he is equally concerned for everyone.

But a powerful torture pursues the powerful.

Therefore, O kings, these, my words, are for you, so that you may learn wisdom and not perish.

For those who have justly preserved justice will be justified, and those who have learned these things will find what to answer.

Therefore, desire my words, love them, and you will have instruction.(c)

Wisdom is pure and never fades away, and is easily seen by those who love her and found by those who seek her.

She anticipates those who desire her, so that she first reveals herself to them.

Whoever awakens early to seek her, will not labor, for he will find her sitting at his door.

Therefore, by thinking about her, understanding is perfected, and whoever remains watchful for her, will quickly be secure.

For she goes about seeking such as are worthy of her, and she reveals herself to them cheerfully in the ways, and meets them with all foresight.

For the very true beginning of her is the desire for instruction.

Therefore, the zeal for instruction is love, and love is the keeping of her laws, and the keeping of her laws is the perfection of incorruptibility,

while incorruptibility makes us near to God.

And so, the desire for wisdom leads to an everlasting kingdom.

If, therefore, your delight is in thrones and scepters, O kings of the people, love wisdom, so that you may reign forever;(d)

love the light of wisdom, all you who lead the peoples.(e)

But what wisdom is, and how she was made, I will report, and I will not hide the mysteries of God from you, but I will investigate her from the beginning of her birth, and I will place the knowledge of her in the light, and will not pass over the truth.

Neither will I hold to the path that dwindles away with envy, because such a man will not partake in wisdom.

For the proliferation of the wise is sanity for the world, and a wise king is the mainstay of the people.

Therefore, receive instruction by my words, and it will benefit you.

Eine Ansprache an die Fürsten, nach der Weisheit zu suchen: Sie wird leicht von denen gefunden, die sie suchen

Besser ist Weisheit als Kraft und ein kluger Mann besser als ein starker.

Höret also, ihr Könige! Und nehmet Einsicht an, lernet ihr Richter der Erde weitum!

Vernehmet es, ihr, die ihr der Völker Menge beherrschet und euren Stolz setzet in die Scharen der Nationen;

denn von dem Herrn ward euch die Herrschaft verliehen und die Gewalt vom Allerhöchsten, er wird eure Werke untersuchen und eure Gedanken durchforschen.

Denn obgleich ihr Diener seiner Herrschaft waret, habt ihr nicht recht gerichtet und das Gesetz der Gerechtigkeit nicht beobachtet und seid nicht nach dem Willen Gottes gewandelt.

Schrecklich und schnell wird er euch erscheinen, denn das strengste Gericht ergeht über die Machthaber.

Denn dem Geringen wird Barmherzigkeit zuteil, aber die Gewaltigen werden gewaltige Züchtigungen zu erdulden haben.

Denn Gott wird niemandes Stand ausnehmen noch irgend jemandes Größe scheuen, hat er doch den Kleinen wie den Großen selber geschaffen und sorgt für alle auf gleiche Weise.

Den Gewaltigen aber steht eine stärkere Strafe bevor.

An euch also, ihr Könige! Ergehen diese meine Reden, dass ihr Weisheit lernet und nicht irre gehet.

Denn diejenigen, welche die Gerechtigkeit recht wahren, werden gerechtfertigt werden; und die sich darüber haben belehren lassen, werden sich zu verantworten wissen.

So seid denn begierig nach meinen Worten und liebet sie, und ihr werdet die rechte Lebensweise erlangen.

Strahlend und unverwelklich ist die Weisheit und leicht wird sie von denen gesehen, welche sie lieben, und von denen gefunden, welche sie suchen.

Ja, sie kommt denen zuvor, die nach ihr verlangen, um sich ihnen zuerst zu zeigen.

Wer frühzeitig auf sie acht hat, wird keine Mühe haben, denn er wird sie an seiner Tür sitzend finden.

Über sie also nachzusinnen ist vollendete Klugheit und wer um ihretwillen wacht, wird bald sorgenfrei sein.

Denn sie selbst geht umher und sucht die auf, die ihrer würdig sind, und erscheint ihnen freundlich auf ihren Wegen und begegnet ihnen bei jedem Gedanken.

Denn ihr Anfang ist ein ganz aufrichtiges Verlangen nach Zucht.

Das Streben nach Zucht ist Liebe und die Liebe ist Beobachtung ihrer Gesetze, die Beobachtung ihrer Gesetze aber ist Vollendung der Unvergänglichkeit;

die Unvergänglichkeit aber macht, dass man Gott nahe kommt.

So führt also das Verlangen nach Weisheit zur ewigen Herrschaft.

Wenn ihr also Freude habt an Thronen und Zeptern, ihr Könige der Völker! So liebet die Weisheit, auf dass ihr ewig herrschet.

Liebet das Licht der Weisheit, ihr alle, die ihr über die Völker herrscht!

Was aber die Weisheit ist und wie sie geworden, will ich verkündigen und will die Geheimnisse Gottes vor euch nicht verbergen, sondern vom Aufgang ihres Ursprungs an will ich nachforschen und ihre Erkenntnis ins Licht setzen und die Wahrheit nicht verschweigen;

auch will ich nicht mit zehrendem Neide es halten, den ein solcher Mensch hat keine Gemeinschaft mit der Weisheit.

Der Weisen große Zahl ist das Heil des Erdkreises und ein weiser König ist die Stütze des Volkes.

Darum nehmet Zucht an durch meine Worte, und es wird euch frommen.
